My experience

I am a secondary maths teacher at The Charter School North Dulwich where I work as a second in department and Key Stage 5 (KS5) Coordinator. Over the last five years, I have been maths coordinator for all three key stages, reviewing and overseeing schemes of work, designing internal assessments and supporting maths teaching and students.

I have led cross-curricular teaching and learning groups and INSET sessions on memory and learning. In the maths department, I have led on the implementation of regular low stakes testing in lessons from KS3 through to KS5.

I also work with the UCL Institute of Education PGCE Maths programme as one of four lead mentors. This role involves mentoring student teachers, leading on professional development for other mentors, and running workshops in the annual ITE conference.

I have recently completed an MA in Mathematics Education at UCL IoE with a focus on Cognitive Load Theory, and I am currently interested on the role of Variation Theory in the mathematics classroom.

Come and see me

  • Embedding low stakes tests as daily recaps on Maths lessons across all Key Stages
  • Using ‘flipped observations’ to support early career teachers: they observe me teach a section of their lesson, followed by an informal discussion.
  • Implementing a two year scheme of work for Maths and Further Maths A-level
  • Designing and implementing daily, weekly or termly assessments
  • Mentoring maths student teachers

I can offer professional development on:

  • Considering the stakes of a test when designing and implementing assessments
  • Using the goal free effect and the worked example effect in the maths classroom
  • Observing and mentoring maths student teachers

I can support teachers/leaders with:

  • Embedding responsive teaching pedagogies in the maths classroom
  • Designing maths schemes of work
  • Designing and implementing maths assessments
