Our ECT Programme

What is the ITTECF?

The DfE will be introducing the new ITTECF  from September 2025, aligning the ITT and ECF into a single, cohesive framework

  • A centrally designed curriculum which sets out what all Early Career Teachers(ECTs) are entitled to learn about and learn how to do during the first 2 yearsof their careers
  • A two-year training and support entitlement for ECTs and their in-school mentors
  • We are partnered with UCL to deliver the ECTE programme

Our ECTE Programme

We are delighted to partner with UCL to offer a Provider Led Induction Training programme to schools in Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. The new ECTE programme is delivered as ten modules over two years, the training is a key part of setting ECTs up for future success in teaching.

Read on to find out what the ECTE programme means for you.

Who are you?

ECT inductions and seminars are delivered in clusters across Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham by expert teachers and school leaders. We also offer an online cluster for schools outside of our Hub region.

The Year 1 ECT programme includes:

  • One 1-hour online induction at the start of the year
  • One 3-hour face to face seminar per half-term in local clusters
  • 23 online independent study sessions
  • ECTs also receive one hour of in-school mentor support per week.

In Year 2, ECTs remain in their Year 1 clusters. ECTs from EYFS and Special School settings have the option to join a specialist cluster.

The Year 2 ECT programme includes:

  • One 1-hour induction day at the start of the year
  • One 2 hour seminar per half term in Autumn and Spring
  • One hour of self-directed online learning per half-term module
  • In Year 2, ECTs also receive one hour of in-school mentor support per fortnight
  • In Summer 2, ECTs have the opportunity to visit up to 2 schools in different settings‍

The new ITTECF mentor training programme will now be completed over one year instead of two.  If you have previously completed a mentor training programme there is no expectation for you to attend any training sessions.

Mentor training is delivered through online seminars.

It is expected a mentor will:

  • Complete The Fundamentals of Mentoring – a two hour self-paced online induction unit on UCL Extend
  • Attend one 2 hour online seminar per half term during Autumn and Spring
  • Complete six 30 minute online independent study sessions on UCL Extend (one per half term)
  • Meet with their ECT for 1 hour per week

The Induction Tutor is appointed by the headteacher/principal and has overall responsibility for the development of an ECT, providing regular monitoring, support, and coordination of assessment.

The Induction Tutor will:

  • Register their ECT with an Appropriate Body (AB)
  • Register their ECT on the DfE portal
  • Complete 2 Progress Reviews and 1 formal assessment a year for their ECT against the Teachers’ Standards
  • Ensure that the ECT’s teaching is observed and feedback provided
  • Ensure that the ECT has a reduced timetable. In the first year (terms 1-3) of induction they must have an additional 10% release time. In the second year (terms 4-6) of induction they must have an additional 5% release time. This time off timetable should be used to specifically enable ECTs to undertake activities in their induction programme.

More information about the Induction Tutors statutory role can be found in our Appropriate Body Handbook.
